Job Description - Regional Sales Manager (RSM)

Reports To: Director/ National Sales Manager / Sales Head

Job Summary

The Regional Sales Manager (RSM) is responsible for driving sales growth, market expansion, and profitability across the assigned region. The role involves managing distributors, leading the regional sales team, strengthening retail and wholesale networks, ensuring product availability, achieving sales targets, and executing trade marketing initiatives. The RSM plays a critical role in increasing market share and building strong customer relationships in the highly competitive food FMCG market.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the assigned region.
  • Develop and execute regional sales strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Drive primary and secondary sales through distributors and channel partners.
  • Identify new business opportunities and expand market penetration.
  • Increase product distribution, visibility, and market share across urban and rural markets.
  • Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and promotional campaigns.

Distributor Management

  • Appoint and develop new distributors where required.
  • Maintain healthy distributor ROI and profitability.
  • Monitor distributor inventory, stock rotation, and order planning.
  • Ensure timely collections and adherence to company credit policies.
  • Resolve distributor issues and improve business relationships.

Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and motivate Area Sales Managers, Territory Sales Officers, and Sales Officers.
  • Conduct regular market visits with the sales team.
  • Set KPIs and review individual performance regularly.
  • Identify training needs and build team capabilities.
  • Drive accountability and execution excellence.

Channel Development

  • Strengthen General Trade (GT), Wholesale, Modern Trade (MT), and Institutional Sales channels.
  • Increase outlet coverage and improve numeric and weighted distribution.
  • Ensure product availability in key retail outlets.
  • Execute new product launches successfully across the region.

Trade Marketing & Execution

  • Implement trade schemes, promotional campaigns, and visibility initiatives.
  • Ensure proper merchandising and point-of-sale material deployment.
  • Monitor retail execution standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of promotional activities.

Planning & Reporting

  • Prepare sales forecasts and demand plans.
  • Analyze sales trends, product-wise performance, and regional business opportunities.
  • Submit timely MIS reports, market intelligence, and competitor analysis.
  • Review sales performance and implement corrective action plans.

Financial Management

  • Achieve regional revenue and profitability targets.
  • Monitor sales expenses and ensure budget adherence.
  • Improve receivables and minimize overdue payments.
  • Optimize sales investments for higher returns.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build strong relationships with distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and key accounts.
  • Handle customer grievances promptly.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
