Full job description

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your leadership and technical expertise in a dynamic and innovative field. You’ll work alongside dedicated and collaborative teammates.

You'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of maintenance services, supporting the Maintenance Manager, and contributing to the success of our operations. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Industrial, Engineering, EHS, Quality, and SCM), oversee planned maintenance and modernization activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

You’ll specifically take care of team management and operational excellence, but also ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Identifying, leading, and delivering continuous improvements to train safety performance, depot reliability, performance, and efficiency.

  • Demonstrating strong communication skills and report-writing capabilities.

  • Ensuring compliance with EHS policies and fostering a safe working environment.

  • Encouraging continuous improvement and supporting process optimization initiatives.

  • Developing team skills and identifying training needs to enhance overall performance.

  • Carrying out handing over and taking over of locomotives with customers (Indian Railways).

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • A Diploma/ITI in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience in rolling stock or under Indian Railways as a Pointsman/Lookout person, preferably 2 years.

  • Knowledge of rail depot operations and industry regulations.

  • Ability to ensure the safe and efficient movement of locomotives within the depot.

  • Proficiency in point operations, including physically changing track switches (points) using levers to guide locomotives to the correct line.

  • Experience with signalling using hand flags, lamps, torches, or radio sets to communicate track conditions and movements to train drivers.

  • Familiarity with shunting operations, including coupling and decoupling locomotives and marshalling within the depot.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under stringent timelines.

  • Proficiency in English and Hindi.

  • Commitment to safety, including ensuring points are correctly set and locked to prevent derailments and checking that adjacent lines are clear.

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines.

  • Work with cutting-edge rail maintenance and modernization practices.

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.

  • Contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of mobility.

  • Utilise our inclusive and agile working environment.

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries.

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning.

  • Progress towards senior leadership roles or specialized technical expertise.

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognizes your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension).

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
