Role Overview

The Senior Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operations of the pathology laboratory across

Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Clinical Pathology (Urine). The role will lead routine sample

processing, analyzer operations, quality checks, troubleshooting, documentation and coordination with the Lab

Manager to ensure accurate reports within defined TATs.

Key Responsibilities

Sample Processing & Testing

● Receive, verify and process blood and urine samples as per SOPs.

● Perform routine testing across: Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Clinical Pathology / Urinalysis.

● Ensure correct sample identification, labeling and accessioning.

● Monitor sample quality, quantity and suitability before processing.

● Handle sample rejection and escalation as per defined criteria.

Analyzer Operations

● Operate automated and semi-automated laboratory analyzers.

● Perform daily start-up, shutdown and maintenance procedures.

● Monitor analyzer flags, error codes and QC alerts.

● Perform calibration and reagent-related activities as per manufacturer/SOP requirements.

● Coordinate with vendors/service engineers for technical issues.

Quality Control

● Run and review internal QC as per defined schedules.

● Identify QC failures and take corrective action before patient reporting.

● Maintain QC logs, maintenance records and temperature logs.

● Ensure adherence to laboratory SOPs and quality standards.

● Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Team Supervision

● Guide and supervise junior technicians.

● Allocate daily testing workload.

● Ensure adequate coverage during shifts.

● Train technicians on SOPs, analyzers and safety practices.

● Escalate technical or operational issues to the Lab Manager.

TAT & Operations

● Ensure samples are processed within defined TAT.

● Monitor pending samples and proactively address bottlenecks.

● Coordinate with the reporting team for report release.

● Ensure no sample is left unprocessed or unaccounted for.

Required Qualifications

● DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology) / B.Sc. MLT preferred.

● Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a diagnostic/pathology laboratory.

● Hands-on experience in at least two of the following: Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Urinalysis.

● Experience with automated analyzers preferred.

● Experience in a high-volume diagnostic laboratory will be an advantage.
