Job Summary
The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for the installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of all biomedical equipment in the hospital. The role ensures that all medical equipment functions efficiently, complies with regulatory standards, and supports uninterrupted patient care.
Key Responsibilities Equipment Management
- Install, test, and commission new biomedical equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to the maintenance schedule.
- Diagnose and repair faulty medical equipment promptly.
- Coordinate with vendors for servicing, warranty claims, and Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC).
- Maintain equipment inventory, service records, and maintenance history.
Calibration & Compliance
- Ensure timely calibration of all medical equipment.
- Maintain calibration certificates and service documentation.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and applicable biomedical safety regulations.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to biomedical equipment.
Breakdown Maintenance
- Attend equipment breakdowns immediately and minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with users and service engineers for emergency repairs.
- Verify equipment functionality before handing it back for clinical use.
Documentation
- Maintain preventive maintenance logs, service reports, breakdown records, and equipment history cards.
- Update AMC/CMC schedules and warranty details.
- Prepare monthly maintenance reports and equipment status reports.
User Training
- Train doctors, nurses, and technicians on the safe and correct operation of medical equipment.
- Educate staff on basic troubleshooting and routine equipment care.
Safety & Quality
- Conduct regular electrical safety checks of medical equipment.
- Ensure safe handling and disposal of defective components.
- Follow hospital safety policies and infection control guidelines.
- Assist during inspections, audits, and accreditation activities.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Nursing, ICU, OT, Radiology, Laboratory, and other departments regarding equipment requirements.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and manufacturers for technical support and upgrades.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of biomedical equipment and medical technology.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance and calibration procedures.
- Familiarity with NABH standards and hospital quality systems.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to prioritize emergency equipment breakdowns.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) or Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
Experience
- 0–2 years: Biomedical Engineer (Fresher/Junior)
- 2–5 years: Hospital biomedical equipment maintenance preferred.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals is an added advantage.

- Accurate and up-to-date maintenance documentation.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts and on-call availability for emergency equipment breakdowns.
- Availability during weekends or holidays if required for critical equipment maintenance.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
