Job Purpose

The Wellness Counsellor will be responsible for promoting the emotional, psychological, social and overall wellbeing of students by providing counselling support, identifying student concerns at an early stage, facilitating appropriate interventions, and creating a safe and supportive school environment.

The role will work closely with students, teachers, parents and school leadership to address academic stress, behavioural concerns, emotional challenges, peer relationships, career planning and other age-appropriate wellbeing needs.

Key Responsibilities1. Student Counselling & Support

  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students.
  • Support students dealing with academic pressure, examination stress, anxiety, emotional difficulties, peer conflicts, behavioural concerns and adjustment issues.
  • Maintain a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for students.
  • Identify students who may require additional psychological, medical or specialist intervention and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Conduct follow-up sessions to monitor student wellbeing and progress.

2. Wellness & Mental Health Programmes

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate student wellness programmes.
  • Conduct workshops and awareness sessions on:
  • Stress management
  • Emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Healthy relationships
  • Peer pressure
  • Bullying and cyberbullying
  • Study skills and examination stress
  • Digital wellbeing
  • Life skills
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Promote positive mental health and emotional resilience across the school community.

3. Academic & Career Guidance

  • Support students in developing effective study habits and time-management skills.
  • Provide age-appropriate academic guidance and motivation.
  • Assist secondary and senior secondary students with career awareness and career decision-making.
  • Conduct career guidance sessions, aptitude/interest-based assessments and counselling where appropriate.
  • Support students in understanding higher-education pathways and career options.

4. Behavioural & Social Support

  • Work with teachers and school leadership to understand and address behavioural concerns.
  • Support students facing peer relationship issues, social adjustment difficulties or conflicts.
  • Assist in implementing positive behavioural interventions.
  • Promote empathy, respect, inclusivity and healthy interpersonal relationships among students.

5. Parent & Teacher Collaboration

  • Conduct counselling meetings with parents/guardians when required.
  • Provide appropriate guidance to parents regarding student emotional, behavioural and academic concerns.
  • Work closely with class teachers, coordinators and school leadership to support students.
  • Conduct awareness sessions for teachers on identifying early signs of emotional or behavioural difficulties.

6. Child Protection & Safeguarding

  • Remain alert to indicators of abuse, neglect, bullying, self-harm risk or other safeguarding concerns.
  • Follow the school's child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Escalate serious concerns to the appropriate school authority in accordance with school policy and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality, subject to safeguarding and legal requirements.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions and student interventions.
  • Maintain appropriate counselling reports, referral records and follow-up documentation.
  • Track recurring wellbeing concerns and identify areas requiring school-wide intervention.
  • Submit periodic reports to the Principal/Head of School while maintaining student confidentiality.
  • Maintain relevant records required for school wellness programmes and CBSE-related requirements.

8. School Wellness Initiatives

  • Plan and coordinate student wellbeing activities throughout the academic year.
  • Support the school in creating a positive, inclusive and emotionally safe learning environment.
  • Participate in orientation programmes, parent meetings, student induction programmes and school events where required.
  • Collaborate with the Special Educator and other student-support professionals for holistic student development.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate/Postgraduate Degree in Psychology; OR
  • Postgraduate Degree in Child Development; OR
  • Graduate/Postgraduate Degree with a Diploma in Career Guidance and Counselling.

These align with the qualification categories specified by CBSE for the Counsellor & Wellness Teacher role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Child Psychology or a related field.
  • Diploma/Certification in Counselling, Child Guidance, Career Guidance or School Counselling.
  • Additional training in child protection, adolescent wellbeing, behavioural intervention or mental health awareness will be an advantage.

Experience

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in school counselling, child/adolescent counselling, educational institutions or a similar environment preferred.
  • Freshers with strong academic credentials and relevant internship/counselling experience may also be considered.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
