Job Summary
The School Counsellor is responsible for supporting the emotional, social, behavioral, and academic well-being of students. The role involves providing individual and group counselling, developing Individual Counselling Plans (ICPs), collaborating with parents and teachers, implementing preventive wellness programs, and creating a safe and supportive school environment that promotes students' holistic development.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Counselling
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions for students facing emotional, behavioral, social, or academic challenges.
- Conduct psychological and behavioral assessments to identify students requiring counselling support.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and review Individual Counselling Plans (ICPs) based on students' specific emotional, behavioral, academic, and social needs.
- Set measurable counselling goals, intervention strategies, and review timelines for each student.
- Regularly evaluate student progress and modify ICPs in collaboration with teachers, parents, and school leadership.
- Maintain confidential counselling records, case notes, progress reports, and intervention documentation.
Emotional & Behavioral Support
- Support students in managing stress, anxiety, emotional regulation, peer relationships, bullying, self-esteem, and adjustment issues.
- Provide crisis intervention and immediate emotional support whenever required.
- Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and social-emotional learning.
Parent & Teacher Collaboration
- Partner with teachers to identify students requiring counselling intervention.
- Conduct parent counselling sessions and provide strategies to support students at home.
- Discuss ICP goals and progress with parents and teachers while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Preventive & Developmental Programs
- Design and conduct workshops on mental health, emotional well-being, life skills, stress management, cyber safety, bullying prevention, and resilience.
- Deliver classroom guidance sessions to promote students' social and emotional development.
Assessments & Referrals
- Conduct behavioural observations and assessments.
- Refer students to psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, or other specialists when necessary, with appropriate documentation and parental consent.
- Coordinate with Special Educators and external professionals for comprehensive student support.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain confidential counselling records, ICP documentation, intervention plans, and progress reports.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, child safeguarding guidelines, and professional ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Applied Psychology, or a related field.
- Certification/Diploma in School Counselling or Child Psychology is preferred.
- RCI registration will be an added advantage (where applicable).
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a School Counsellor in a CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE, or other reputed K-12 school.
- Hands-on experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing Individual Counselling Plans (ICPs) for students with emotional, behavioral, learning, or social concerns is mandatory.
- Experience in conducting counselling assessments, crisis intervention, parent counselling, and teacher consultation is preferred.
Required Skills
- Expertise in Individual Counselling Plan (ICP) development and case management.
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent psychology.
- Excellent counselling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Strong observation, documentation, and report-writing skills.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital documentation systems.
