Job Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications accurately, ensuring compliance with physician prescriptions, maintaining pharmaceutical inventory, and providing medication-related guidance to patients and healthcare professionals. The role requires adherence to hospital policies, pharmacy regulations, patient safety standards, and quality assurance protocols. The Pharmacist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, effective, and rational use of medications within the hospital.

Key ResponsibilitiesMedication Dispensing & Prescription Management

• Review and verify prescriptions for completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness before dispensing.
• Dispense medications accurately according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
• Ensure correct dosage, route, frequency, and duration of prescribed medications.
• Identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, and medication errors.
• Label medications clearly and accurately as per regulatory requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information while handling prescriptions.

Patient Counseling & Education

• Educate patients and caregivers regarding medication usage, dosage schedules, storage requirements, and possible side effects.
• Provide guidance on medication adherence and safety precautions.
• Answer patient queries related to prescribed medications and over-the-counter products.
• Counsel patients regarding lifestyle modifications and medication compliance when appropriate.

Inventory & Stock Management

• Monitor stock levels and ensure adequate availability of medicines and consumables.
• Receive, verify, and store pharmaceutical supplies according to recommended storage conditions.
• Conduct periodic inventory checks and stock audits.
• Monitor expiry dates and facilitate timely removal of expired or damaged medications.
• Coordinate with suppliers and procurement teams for replenishment of stock.
• Maintain proper records of narcotic, controlled, and high-risk medications.

Hospital Pharmacy Operations

• Ensure compliance with hospital pharmacy policies and statutory regulations.
• Maintain proper documentation of dispensing activities and pharmacy records.
• Assist in implementing medication safety initiatives and quality improvement programs.
• Support inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and specialty pharmacy services.
• Participate in ward stock management and replenishment activities.
• Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols within the pharmacy.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

• Follow applicable pharmacy laws, hospital accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Report medication errors, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and near-miss incidents.
• Participate in internal audits and quality assurance activities.
• Maintain accurate records required for inspections and regulatory compliance.

Collaboration & Communication

• Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication-related concerns.
• Clarify prescription-related queries with prescribing physicians when necessary.
• Participate in multidisciplinary healthcare team discussions when required.
• Assist in training pharmacy assistants, interns, and junior staff.

Required QualificationsEducational Qualification

• Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) from a recognized institution.
• Registered Pharmacist with the respective State Pharmacy Council.
• Valid Pharmacy Registration Certificate.

Experience

• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
• Experience in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, or specialty pharmacy services preferred.

• Knowledge of pharmaceutical products, drug classifications, and medication management.
• Understanding of hospital pharmacy operations and inventory control.
• Familiarity with pharmacy software and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
• Knowledge of medication safety practices and regulatory requirements.

• Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.

• Standing for extended periods and handling pharmaceutical inventory.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹22,000.00 per month
