Indus Global Projects India Private Limited is developing a diversified business portfolio covering Real Estate, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Projects, Industrial Investments, Entrepreneurship Development, and Gems & Diamonds Trading.

As part of our proposed expansion into the Gems, Diamonds & Precious Stones business, we are seeking a technically qualified and commercially knowledgeable Gemologist to support the establishment and development of this division.

The selected candidate will play an important role in identifying, examining, grading, evaluating and sourcing diamonds and precious gemstones while assisting management in building a reliable and commercially viable trading business.

1. Key Responsibilities

A. Diamond Identification and Grading

Identify and examine natural diamonds, laboratory-grown diamonds and diamond simulants.

Assess diamonds using the internationally recognised 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight.

Examine diamond characteristics using gemological microscopes, loupes, UV equipment and other appropriate instruments.

Conduct preliminary screening for treatments, enhancements and potential misrepresentation.

Review and interpret grading reports issued by recognised laboratories, including GIA, IGI and other reputable institutions.

Verify available laboratory report details against the stones presented for examination.

Recommend referral to an accredited laboratory whenever definitive identification or advanced testing is required.

B. Precious and Coloured Gemstone Identification

Identify and evaluate gemstones including ruby, sapphire, emerald, alexandrite, spinel, tourmaline, aquamarine, topaz and other commercially important stones.

Distinguish natural gemstones from synthetic, imitation and treated materials, within the limits of available testing equipment.

Assess colour, clarity, cut, carat weight, transparency, inclusions and overall quality.

Use appropriate instruments such as refractometers, polariscopes, spectroscopes, microscopes and specific-gravity equipment.

Identify warning signs of glass filling, fracture filling, diffusion treatment, heating and other enhancements.

Prepare preliminary gemstone identification and quality assessment reports.

C. Gemstone Valuation and Commercial Assessment

Research prevailing wholesale and trade-market prices for diamonds and precious gemstones.

Prepare indicative valuation reports based on quality, grading, treatment status, market demand and available comparable transactions.

Evaluate proposed purchases and advise management on potential commercial risks.

Assist in determining target procurement prices, selling-price ranges and indicative trading margins.

Support management in evaluating gemstone lots, dealer quotations and prospective trading opportunities.

Clearly distinguish internal commercial estimates from formal independent valuation or certification.

D. Procurement and Supplier Verification

Identify and develop relationships with reliable diamond dealers, gemstone suppliers, manufacturers, cutters and wholesalers.

Support supplier due diligence and verification of gemstone origin, authenticity, treatment disclosures and documentation.

Assist in sourcing diamonds and gemstones from established Indian and international trading centres.

Examine and verify stones before procurement, subject to company-approved procedures.

Maintain supplier records, gemstone specifications, quotations and transaction documentation.

Assist in negotiating purchase terms within the authority approved by management.

E. Business Development and Market Research

Support the establishment of the company's Gems & Diamonds Division.

Identify opportunities in loose diamonds, coloured gemstones, polished stones and related trading activities.

Research domestic and international demand, customer segments and potential trading partners.

Develop professional relationships with jewellery manufacturers, exporters, wholesalers, traders and institutional buyers.

Prepare feasibility reports, market studies, product portfolios and business proposals.

Assist management in developing sourcing, inventory, pricing and sales strategies.

F. Quality Control, Inventory and Security

Inspect incoming gemstones and diamonds against approved specifications and supplier documentation.

Maintain individual stone identification records, weights, measurements, photographs and grading details.

Establish appropriate systems for inventory reconciliation, chain of custody and secure storage.

Ensure high-value stones are handled according to documented security procedures.

Identify discrepancies, suspicious substitutions and inconsistencies between stones and supporting documents.

Coordinate independent laboratory testing when necessary.

Maintain confidentiality concerning suppliers, customers, pricing and commercial transactions

G. Compliance and Documentation

Support compliance with applicable Indian import-export, customs, taxation, invoicing and trade requirements.

Maintain relevant gemstone identification reports, invoices, laboratory certificates and transaction records.

Assist in implementing supplier and customer due-diligence procedures.

Support responsible sourcing practices and applicable anti-money-laundering controls.

Ensure that gemstone descriptions, treatment disclosures and representations made to customers are accurate and properly supported.

2. Educational Qualifications

Essential

Graduate or Diploma qualification in Gemology from a recognised institution.

Formal training in diamond grading and coloured gemstone identification.

Sound knowledge of gemological instruments and laboratory testing procedures.

Preferred Certifications

Graduate Gemologist (GG) – Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Relevant qualifications from the International Gemological Institute (IGI).

Recognised gemology qualifications from established Indian gemological training institutions.

Additional training in synthetic diamond detection, advanced gemstone identification or valuation.

3. Professional Experience

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in diamond grading, gemstone identification, gemological laboratories, gemstone trading or related commercial operations.

Experience with both diamonds and coloured gemstones is strongly preferred.

Practical experience in evaluating high-value stones and verifying laboratory reports.

Exposure to wholesale gemstone markets, procurement or commercial valuation will be an advantage.

Existing professional relationships with reputable gemstone suppliers and diamond dealers are desirable.

4. Technical Skills Required

The candidate should have practical experience with:

10× jeweller's loupe and gemological microscope.

Refractometer and polariscope.

Spectroscope and dichroscope.

Precision carat balances and measurement instruments.

UV examination equipment.

Diamond screening instruments.

Gemstone photography and documentation.

Interpretation of recognised laboratory reports.

Microsoft Excel, inventory records and commercial reporting.

Experience with advanced diamond screening technologies, spectroscopy and laboratory referral procedures will be an added advantage.

Contribution to establishing the Gems & Diamonds Division.

Compliance with company procedures, security requirements and ethical standards.

7. Compensation and Benefits

Indicative Monthly CTC: ₹60,000–₹90,000, negotiable based on technical qualifications, practical experience and commercial expertise.

8. Career Growth

The selected candidate may have the opportunity to progress into the position of Head – Gems & Diamonds Division, subject to performance, business development and the expansion of the company's trading activities.
