Job Description – Factory Welfare Officer

Position: Factory Welfare Officer
Department: HR & Compliance
Location: Factory Unit
Reports To: Factory Manager / Compliance Head / Managing Director

Job Summary

The Factory Welfare Officer is responsible for ensuring employee welfare, statutory compliance related to labor laws, employee engagement, grievance handling, health and safety coordination, and maintaining harmonious industrial relations within the factory. The role acts as a bridge between management and workers to promote a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesEmployee Welfare

  • Implement and monitor welfare facilities as required under the Factories Act and other applicable labor laws.
  • Ensure availability and proper maintenance of canteen, drinking water, restrooms, first-aid facilities, crèche (if applicable), and other welfare amenities.
  • Conduct regular welfare inspections and recommend improvements.
  • Organize employee welfare programs, health camps, awareness sessions, and recreational activities.

Employee Relations & Grievance Handling

  • Address employee concerns, complaints, and grievances promptly.
  • Act as a liaison between workers and management.
  • Promote positive employee relations and workplace harmony.
  • Assist in resolving disciplinary and workplace issues.

Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws, factory regulations, and welfare provisions.
  • Coordinate inspections by government authorities and maintain statutory records.
  • Support compliance related to:
  • Factories Act
  • Shops & Establishments Act (where applicable)
  • ESI
  • EPF
  • Contract Labour Act
  • Minimum Wages Act
  • Payment of Wages Act
  • Industrial Relations provisions
  • Maintain required registers, notices, and statutory documentation.

Health & Safety Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Safety Officer and Factory Management on worker safety initiatives.
  • Assist in accident reporting, investigation, and preventive measures.
  • Conduct safety awareness and welfare training programs.
  • Ensure workers use prescribed PPE and follow safety procedures.

HR & Administration Support

  • Assist in employee onboarding and induction programs.
  • Maintain employee welfare records and documentation.
  • Monitor attendance, leave, and worker welfare-related matters.
  • Support manpower accommodation and transportation welfare arrangements where applicable.

Training & Development

  • Conduct awareness programs on labor rights, workplace discipline, hygiene, safety, and welfare measures.
  • Assist in skill development and employee engagement initiatives.

Industrial Relations

  • Maintain cordial relations with workers, unions (if any), and management.
  • Participate in dispute prevention and settlement activities.
  • Support management during labor-related discussions and negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW), MSW, Human Resources, Labour Welfare, Industrial Relations, or related field.
  • Degree/Diploma qualification prescribed for Welfare Officers under applicable State Factory Rules.
  • Knowledge of labor laws and factory compliance requirements.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in factory welfare, HR, labor compliance, or industrial relations.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, bakery, sweets & savouries, or manufacturing industries preferred.

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and factory regulations.
  • Employee grievance handling and counseling skills.
  • Industrial relations and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Good communication in Tamil and English.
  • Record maintenance and compliance documentation.
  • Coordination and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and HR documentation.

  • Statutory compliance adherence.
  • Timely resolution of employee grievances.
  • Employee welfare program implementation.
  • Reduction in employee complaints and disputes.
  • Successful completion of audits and inspections.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
