This role requires a creative leader who can translate editorial content into visually engaging, pedagogically effective, and production-ready layouts while managing design teams and ensuring timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and page composition of educational publications across ELT, K–12, Higher Education, and professional publishing projects.
  • Develop visually appealing, reader-friendly, and production-ready page layouts that align with publisher specifications and brand guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for typography, visual hierarchy, page balance, colour usage, and overall design consistency.
  • Manage the complete book design lifecycle—from concept development through final production files.
  • Collaborate closely with Editorial, Project Management, Production, and Artwork teams to deliver high-quality publishing solutions.
  • Review and approve layouts, illustrations, graphics, tables, and page designs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and production readiness.
  • Guide and mentor designers, providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional development.
  • Allocate design resources, monitor workloads, and ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Resolve complex design and production challenges while maintaining project schedules.
  • Ensure all files meet print and digital production specifications and publisher requirements.
  • Stay current with industry trends, publishing technologies, accessibility standards, and best practices in educational publishing.
  • Drive process improvements and implement design efficiencies to enhance productivity and quality.

Required Skills

  • 7–10 years of professional experience in book design and page composition within the educational or academic publishing industry.
  • Strong expertise in educational publishing, including ELT, K–12, Higher Education, and academic content.
  • Excellent understanding of typography, layout principles, visual hierarchy, colour theory, and information design.
  • Proven experience designing complex, content-rich publications with high production quality.
  • Strong knowledge of print production processes and digital publishing workflows.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience working with publisher templates, design standards, and production specifications.
  • Strong leadership, project planning, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • A qualification in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field will be an added advantage.

  • Experience working with international educational publishers.
  • Exposure to print and digital publishing workflows, including accessibility and interactive publishing standards.
  • Experience leading and mentoring design teams.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end publishing and book production processes.
  • Passion for creating high-quality educational content that enhances the learner’s experience.
