Job Description – Microbiologist

Job Summary

We are looking for a Microbiologist / QC Microbiologist to join our Quality Control team at an Ayurvedic manufacturing facility. The candidate will be responsible for microbiological testing and monitoring of raw materials, in-process materials, finished Ayurvedic products, water, environmental samples, and manufacturing areas.

The role requires strong laboratory skills, attention to detail, proper documentation, and knowledge of GMP, GLP, SOPs and microbiological quality-control practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, herbal materials, in-process samples and finished products.
• Perform testing for Total Plate Count (TPC), Total Yeast & Mold Count (TYMC) and specified pathogens as per approved methods.
• Conduct microbiological analysis of water samples, including purified/process water where applicable.
• Perform environmental monitoring of manufacturing, processing, filling and packing areas.
• Prepare, sterilize and maintain culture media, reagents and solutions.
• Perform media preparation, media growth promotion testing and related microbiological checks.
• Maintain microbiology laboratory equipment, instruments, cultures and consumables.
• Carry out microbial identification and investigation of abnormal microbiological results when required.
• Ensure proper sampling, testing, labeling, storage and disposal of microbiological samples.
• Maintain laboratory records, worksheets, registers, logbooks, test reports and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
• Follow approved SOPs, GMP, GLP, safety and hygiene procedures.
• Assist in investigation of OOS/OOT results, deviations, complaints and CAPA related to microbiological quality.
• Support internal audits, customer audits and regulatory inspections.
• Ensure proper cleaning, sanitization and housekeeping of the microbiology laboratory.
• Monitor laboratory conditions and maintain microbiological testing areas in a controlled and hygienic manner.
• Ensure data integrity and accurate, timely documentation of all test results.
• Coordinate with Production, QA, QC and other departments for microbiological quality-related activities.
• Participate in method verification/validation and other microbiological studies as required.
• Maintain inventory of culture media, chemicals, reagents and laboratory consumables.

Educational Qualification

• B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Microbiology preferred.
• Candidates with relevant qualifications in Biotechnology, Life Sciences or related disciplines may also be considered.

Experience

• 1–3 years of experience in QC Microbiology, preferably in:
• Ayurvedic manufacturing
• Herbal products
• Pharmaceutical manufacturing
• Nutraceutical manufacturing
• Food/cosmetic manufacturing
• Freshers with strong microbiology laboratory knowledge may also be considered for junior positions.

Required Skills

• Good knowledge of microbiological laboratory techniques.
• Knowledge of microbial enumeration and pathogen testing.
• Knowledge of environmental monitoring and water microbiology.
• Good understanding of GMP, GLP and SOP compliance.
• Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to investigate abnormal/OOS microbiological results.
• Good aseptic and hygienic laboratory practices.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments and sterilization procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
