Job Description – Medical Coder Trainee

Position - Medical Coder Trainee

Educational Qualification

Any graduate with a Life Sciences background (B.Sc., B.Pharm, M.Pharm, Pharm.D, Biotechnology, Microbiology, etc).

Experience

Freshers are welcome to apply.

Candidates who have successfully completed a Medical Coding Training Program (Certificate) will be preferred.

Required Knowledge & Qualifications

Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

Basic knowledge of healthcare billing and reimbursement processes.

Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Certification

Certification from a recognized coding organization such as AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., CPC or CCS) is preferred.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Good typing speed and computer skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Willingness to learn and adapt to changing coding guidelines.

Ability to meet productivity and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze patient medical records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures.

Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation.

Ensure timely and accurate coding for billing and reimbursement purposes.

Verify documentation completeness and communicate with healthcare providers or billing teams to clarify coding-related queries.

Maintain coding accuracy in accordance with coding guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory requirements.

Ensure confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA and organizational data privacy policies.

Stay updated with changes in coding standards, payer regulations, and industry best practices.

Participate in training sessions, quality audits, and continuous professional development activities.

Meet assigned productivity and quality benchmarks.

Preferred Candidate Profile

Life Science graduate with a passion for healthcare and medical coding.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
