Full job description
Key Responsibilities1. Library Operations
- Assist in the day-to-day administration and functioning of the medical/allied health sciences library.
- Support acquisition, accessioning, classification, cataloguing, labeling, shelving, and preservation of library resources.
- Maintain accurate records of books, journals, databases, theses, dissertations, and other information resources.
- Assist in circulation, renewal, reservation, and return of library materials.
- Ensure proper arrangement and availability of resources in the library.
2. Medical and Allied Health Information Services
- Provide reference and information services to students, faculty, clinicians, researchers, and other users.
- Assist users in identifying appropriate medical, biomedical, nursing, pharmaceutical, and allied health information resources.
- Provide guidance in the use of medical subject databases, e-journals, e-books, and online information resources.
- Assist users in literature searching and retrieval of relevant scholarly information.
3. Electronic and Digital Library Services
- Assist in managing and providing access to subscribed electronic resources and databases.
- Support users in accessing e-journals, e-books, institutional repositories, and other digital resources.
- Monitor database and electronic-resource access and report technical or access-related issues.
- Assist with development and maintenance of digital library and institutional repository services.
4. User Education and Information Literacy
- Conduct library orientation programmes for newly admitted students and faculty.
- Organize training sessions on library resources, databases, literature searching, citation tools, and reference management software.
- Promote effective use of scholarly and evidence-based information resources.
- Prepare user guides, instructional materials, and information alerts.
5. Research Support
- Assist faculty, postgraduate students, and researchers with literature searches and information retrieval.
- Provide guidance on citation styles, bibliographic databases, reference management, and scholarly communication.
- Support systematic and structured literature-search activities as appropriate to the institution's requirements.
- Assist users in identifying credible and authoritative sources of medical and scientific information.
6. Collection Development
- Assist in evaluating and recommending books, journals, e-books, databases, and other resources relevant to medical and allied health sciences curricula.
- Monitor usage of library resources and provide recommendations for collection development.
- Assist with subscription renewal, resource evaluation, and weeding of outdated materials in accordance with institutional policies.
7. Library Automation and Technology
- Operate and maintain library management systems and online public access catalogues (OPAC).
- Assist with barcode/RFID-based library operations where applicable.
- Support basic troubleshooting of library-related software, hardware, and digital-resource access.
- Maintain appropriate library statistics and generate reports as required.
8. Academic and Institutional Support
- Coordinate with academic departments to understand curriculum and information-resource requirements.
- Assist in preparing library reports, usage statistics, accreditation documentation, and institutional reports.
- Support library requirements related to inspections, accreditation, and regulatory bodies.
- Participate in library committees, academic activities, workshops, conferences, and professional-development programmes.
