Job Description: Purchase Manager

Reports To: Manager – Procurement / Purchase

Job Summary

The Purchase Manager is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, machinery, and services required for wire manufacturing operations. The role ensures cost efficiency, supplier reliability, and uninterrupted production by maintaining optimal inventory levels and strong vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Sourcing

  • Procure key raw materials such as copper rods, aluminium rods, steel wire rods, insulation materials, and packaging materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers/vendors.
  • Ensure timely procurement to avoid production downtime.

2. Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations based on cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, payment terms, and supply agreements.

3. Cost Control & Budgeting

  • Monitor market trends (LME copper, aluminium prices, etc.) to optimize procurement cost.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies and value engineering initiatives.
  • Prepare and manage procurement budgets.

4. Inventory Management

  • Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Avoid excess inventory and minimize stock-outs.
  • Oversee material planning based on production schedules.

5. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure purchased materials meet required quality standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspection and approval.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

6. Documentation & ERP Handling

  • Generate Purchase Orders (POs) and maintain procurement records.
  • Work on ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) for procurement tracking.
  • Ensure proper documentation for audits and financial controls.

7. Cross-functional Coordination

  • Work closely with production, finance, logistics, and quality teams.
  • Coordinate for timely delivery, payment processing, and issue resolution.

Key Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Commerce, Engineering, or related field
  • MBA in Supply Chain/Operations (preferred)

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in procurement, preferably in wire, cable, or metal manufacturing industries

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Knowledge of raw materials like copper, aluminium, and steel
  • Market awareness (commodity pricing trends)
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Excel
  • Analytical and cost optimization skills
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Cost savings and procurement efficiency
  • Vendor performance and reliability
  • Inventory turnover ratio
  • On-time material availability
  • Reduction in procurement cycle time

Working Conditions
