Social Content Strategist
Level: Individual Contributor, hands-on
Experience: 4-5 years
Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer & CEO/ Relevant client lead
Works closely with: Creative & Content team, Junior Social Media Resource, Client Partnerships
Role Summary
Owns the performance of MediaJenie's and its clients' social media handles - calendar, content ideas, briefs, research, and diagnosis - across B2B and B2C accounts. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role, not a delegator or people-manager position. The Creative team produces the final asset; the Junior Social Media Resource executes posting, DMs, and reporting logistics. This role decides what happens and why, and is accountable for whether it works.
This role is judged on outcomes - followers, engagement, and social-attributed leads/sales - not on activity or output volume.
Core Responsibilities
1. Research & Listening
- Conduct audience research, competitive content analysis, and category/social listening (Reddit, X, LinkedIn discussions, comments, review sites etc) to generate strategic hypotheses before ideation begins
- Track competitor and creator activity to identify saturating formats and emerging opportunities
- Own this data/research responsibility end-to-end - may execute personally or direct the Junior SM Resource to pull it, but accountability for accuracy and use stays with this role
2. Strategy & Content Ideation
- Develop content series and concepts rooted in audience psychology and cultural tension - not platform trends or generic best practices
- Build reusable creative devices/formats that scale into a series, not one-off ideas
- Adapt concepts correctly across objectives - awareness, leads, sales - and across B2B/B2C client types
3. Briefing
- Write scripts and shot-level briefs specific enough that the Creative team can polish and produce without needing to reinterpret intent
- Every brief should define the hook, narrative arc, emotional trigger, CTA, and the specific metric it's meant to move - not just the shot list
- Own the "no interpretation gap" principle - if a brief is followed and results are poor, that is a hypothesis failure owned by this role, not a Creative team failure
- Hand off finished briefs to the Creative team for production (static, carousel, reels); Creative team owns rewriting, polishing, and asset production
4. Calendar & Coordination
- Own and decide the social media calendar across handles - what gets posted, when, and why
- Prioritize content opportunities based on expected impact, audience relevance, and available evidence - every calendar slot reflects a deliberate trade-off, not a first-come-first-served queue
- Direct the Junior Social Media Resource on priorities for prep, posting, DM/comment handling (SOP-driven), and reporting
- As the team grows, direct output and priorities for additional resources (e.g. performance marketer, social copywriter) on the same non-managerial basis
5. Performance Diagnosis & Experimentation
- Design specific tests for open questions - new hooks, formats, or hypotheses - rather than only reviewing what was already published
- Analyse account data to identify why content wins or loses, diagnosing by underlying behavioural mechanism - not surface format (length, carousel vs. reel, etc.)
- Distinguish genuine causal patterns from confounded variables and generic platform trivia
- Run regular performance reviews tied to specific content decisions and feed learnings back into the next brief and the next test
6. Platform Ownership
- Deep, current, hands-on fluency across LinkedIn, Instagram, and X (TikTok/YouTube Shorts where relevant) for both B2B and B2C contexts
- Maintain current working knowledge of platform distribution mechanics and creator best practices, adapting strategy as platforms evolve
Scope Boundary
This role OWNS
Social calendar - what gets posted, when, and why
Content ideas, scripts, and shot-level briefs for the Creative team
Data, research, and performance diagnosis (may be self-executed or delegated to Junior SM, but accountability stays here)
Direction/priorities for supporting resources (Junior SM now; performance marketer, social copywriter as team grows)
Accountability for handle performance (followers, engagement, leads/sales)
This role does NOT own
Managing or directing the Creative team's overall workload/priorities
Final creative execution - Creative team polishes/produces the asset
Brand positioning, campaigns, or cross-channel strategy (Creative Strategist's remit)
Formal people management / hiring authority over those resources
Paid media buying/budget ownership
Must-Have Skills
- Proven ability to generate content concepts across multiple brands, platforms, and objectives - not just one vertical or client type (B2B and B2C)
- Strong diagnostic thinking - reads data through behavioural mechanism, not surface metrics or borrowed platform rules
- Excellent brief/script writing - can translate insight into execution-ready direction
- Genuine, current platform fluency - demonstrated through actual published work, not certifications
- Comfortable owning outcomes and being measured against them
- Hands-on - actively does the research, ideation, and briefing personally; this is not a delegation role
Explicitly Not Required
- Design, video editing, scripting-to-camera, or shooting - Creative team owns execution
- Formal team management or hiring authority
- Heavy paid media buying expertise
Candidate Profile
Young, sharp, 4–5 years of hands-on social media experience. Someone still close to the platforms day-to-day - not a senior generalist with dated, pre-Reels-era instincts. Should be able to point to real accounts they personally grew, with specifics on what worked and why.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹75,000.00 per month
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
Application Question(s):
- Share links to the Linkedin and Instagram accounts you have grown (followers/ engagement).
- Share links to social-media content posts you have planned and created, which has generated great engagement.
