Head of People & OrganizationBuild the People Engine. Shape the Organization. Help Humble Bee Scale.
Location: Bengaluru / Delhi-NCR / Varanasi (with occasional travel to field locations)Reports to: Founders
Level: Senior LeadershipExperience: 8 - 10 years preferredSector: Social Enterprise / Agri-Livelihoods / Rural DevelopmentType: Full-time
Remuneration: INR 20 - 25 LPA (CTC)
About Humble Bee
At Humble Bee, we are building a thriving beekeeping ecosystem that creates better livelihoods for people, strengthens agriculture, and unlocks the enormous potential of bees and their products. Our ambition is to take this mission from a small team today to an organization capable of creating impact at significant scale - across rural India and, eventually, beyond. That scale will require capital, technology and execution.
But above all, it will require great people. People who can build. People who can learn. People who can lead. People who care about the mission.
We are looking for a Head of People & Organization who will help us build the systems, processes and culture that allow those people to thrive.
The Opportunity
This is not a conventional HR role. You will join Humble Bee at an important inflection point: the company is growing, the organization is becoming more complex, and the People function needs to evolve from founder-driven execution into a professional, scalable system. Your first responsibility will be to get the house in order.
But your ambition should go much further. You will build the foundation for a People & Organization Engine that can eventually support hundreds and ultimately thousands of people across rural and field operations, apiaries, sales, manufacturing, processing and corporate functions.
You will help us build an organization where people know:
Why they are here. What is expected of them. How they can become better. How they can grow. And why they should choose to stay.
Your Mandate
Build a scalable, high-trust, high-performance People & Organization function that gives Humble Bee the organizational capacity to grow.
You will bring discipline to the fundamentals while simultaneously building the foundations for:
Talent → Performance → Capability → Leadership → Culture → Growth
The goal is simple: People should never become the constraint on Humble Bee's ambition.
What You Will Build1. Workforce & Organization
Help Humble Bee build the organization it needs for its next stage of growth.
- Translate business plans into workforce requirements.
- Establish clear organization structures, reporting lines and roles.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions and role architecture.
- Support managers in defining KRAs, KPIs and accountability.
- Identify critical roles and organizational gaps.
- Help improve spans, layers and organizational effectiveness.
- Build the foundations of workforce planning and people productivity.
2. Talent Supply & Acquisition
Build a reliable talent supply system that goes beyond a recruitment process. Our workforce will span rural programme teams, field operations, sales, apiaries, manufacturing, processing and corporate functions.
You will:
- Build and institutionalize the hiring flow from application to joining.
- Develop sourcing channels and talent pools for different workforce categories.
- Build relationships with institutions, local networks and other talent sources.
- Establish referral and employer-branding mechanisms.
- Create structured screening and interview processes.
- Improve hiring manager capability.
- Establish recruitment dashboards and metrics.
- Build onboarding processes that help new employees become productive quickly.
As we scale, the ambition is to move from:
“We have a vacancy.” to “We already have a pipeline of people who could fill it.”
3. Performance & Accountability
Build the foundations of a performance-oriented organization.
- Establish a simple, effective performance management system.
- Help managers translate organizational priorities into KRAs and KPIs.
- Establish goal-setting and review rhythms.
- Create performance documentation and calibration processes.
- Support managers in giving feedback and addressing underperformance.
- Connect performance with development, recognition, rewards and career progression.
- Build manager capability so that performance management becomes a management responsibility—not an HR ritual.
4. Capability, Learning & Careers
Help Humble Bee increasingly build its own talent.
Create the foundations for:
- Role-based competency frameworks.
- Technical and functional training.
- Manager development.
- Leadership development.
- Onboarding and induction.
- Retraining and reskilling.
- Certification.
- Career paths.
- Internal mobility.
We want employees to see a future here.
A Mandal Coordinator should be able to imagine becoming a District or State leader.
A machine operator should be able to see a path towards becoming a Line Leader, Supervisor and Production Manager.
An apiary employee should be able to build a career in technical and operational leadership.
Learning should lead to capability. Capability should lead to performance. Performance should lead to growth.
5. Leadership Development
Start building the leadership pipeline that Humble Bee will need as it grows.
- Identify critical management and leadership roles.
- Build first-time manager programmes.
- Establish talent reviews.
- Identify high-potential employees.
- Develop internal promotion pathways.
- Begin succession planning for critical roles.
- Help business leaders become better people managers.
6. Culture, Engagement & People Wellness
Help create a workplace where high performance and high care coexist.
Build systems for:
- Employee listening.
- Engagement surveys and pulse checks.
- New-joiner and exit feedback.
- Recognition.
- Employee communication.
- Grievance resolution.
- Team engagement.
- Employee wellbeing.
- Frontline employee welfare.
Understand that the needs of a rural field employee, apiary technician, manufacturing operator and corporate professional may be very different, they should experience the same sense of purpose, respect, belonging and opportunity that defines Humble Bee.
We want to understand the best practices in the industry. But we also want to have the audacity to set new benchmarks.
7. People Operations, Compensation & Compliance
Build a People operating system that is reliable, simple, compliant and scalable.
Take ownership of:
- HRIS and employee data.
- Employee documentation.
- Attendance and leave.
- Payroll coordination and controls.
- Reimbursements.
- HR policies and SOPs.
- Compensation structures and salary bands.
- Benefits and employee welfare.
- Contract and seasonal workforce processes.
- Labour and statutory compliance.
- POSH and other employment-related compliance.
- People MIS and reporting.
The objective is not to personally run every administrative process.
Build the system. Establish the controls. Build the team. Then delegate.
The underlying role architecture includes EPF, ESI, Shops & Establishments, Professional Tax where applicable, Bonus, Gratuity, POSH, Contract Labour, Minimum Wages and factory-related requirements among the areas requiring disciplined HR compliance.
What You Will Own
You will be expected to personally drive the transformation of Humble Bee's People function from: Founder-dependent → Process-driven → Manager-enabled → Scalable.
You will build the foundation of Humble Bee's People & Organization capability.
That means you should be ambitious enough to think beyond HR administration, but pragmatic enough to first make sure the fundamentals work.
Who We Are Looking For
You have approximately 8 - 10 years of strong People/HR experience, with meaningful experience building or scaling People systems in a growing organization.
You are likely to have worked in one or more of:
Agriculture | Dairy | Agri-allied businesses | Rural development | Rural banking / Microfinance | Cooperatives | Manufacturing | Food processing | FMCG | Logistics | Field services | High-growth startups
Industry experience is valuable. Building experience is more important.
You should have worked with some combination of:
- Distributed teams.
- Frontline employees.
- Rural or semi-urban workforce.
- Manufacturing/shop-floor employees.
- Skilled and semi-skilled workers.
- Field teams.
- Multi-location operations.
- Contract or seasonal workforce.
You understand that hiring 100 people in a corporate office is very different from building a reliable talent supply for 100 people across rural India.
The Person We Want
You are a builder. You don't wait for perfect instructions.
You see something that is broken and fix it.
You see something that doesn't exist and build it.
You can move between strategy and execution without considering either beneath you.
You are:
- High agency — you make things happen.
- Commercial — you understand the business, not just HR.
- Data-driven — you measure what matters.
- Empathetic — you care about people and their dignity.
- Process-oriented — you build systems that scale.
- Ambitious — you want to build something exceptional.
- Pragmatic — you know when to build and when to simplify.
- Courageous — you can challenge leaders constructively.
- Low ego — the institution matters more than your personal empire.
- Mission-driven — you want your work to create meaningful impact.
Most importantly, you should genuinely believe:
A great company is ultimately built by great people and great people deserve an organization that helps them become even better.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to join Humble Bee before the People function is fully built.
You will not inherit a finished HR machine. You will build it.
You will work directly with the founders and business leaders, see the company evolve up close, and have a rare opportunity to shape how an organization is designed, how people experience it, and how leaders are created. If Humble Bee succeeds, you will be able to look back and say: “I helped build the organization that made that success possible.”
And if our mission succeeds, the work you do here will ultimately help create better livelihoods for thousands of people. That is the opportunity.
Build the people. Build the organization. Build Humble Bee.
If that excites you, we would love to meet you.
