Requisite Qualification : Masters degree in Yoga or another related field like Contemplative Studies, Consciousness Studies, Hindu Studies, and a PhD or equivalent (like ThD, D.Min) in Yoga, Meditation or a closely allied field from a recognized University, teaching experience as per UGC norms. Consistently good academic credentials

K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies conducts multiple programmes in Yogashatra (Currently Department of Yoga and Meditation)
ranging from Certification to PhD. The programmes like M.A. Yogashastra, B.A. Yogashastra,
P G Diploma in Yogic Science get a good response of students as there are many
opportunities in the field of Yoga that can be explored after the completion of these
programmes.
Apart from these degree programmes, special audit courses programmes are curated for specific
needs which are opted by outsiders as well as students from other institutes on the
campus. Currently there are two full time faculty members in Yoga. However, it becomes
challenging to manage the load of lectures and more visiting faculty needs to be included. These new posts can contribute towards teaching and administrative activities and help to increase the outreach of the institute

Please describe the Job Description of this Position:
The KJ Somaiya Institute for Dharma Studies is looking to hire two faculty in the Department of Yoga and Meditation at an open rank. The faculty who will be joining us this year will help grow our program offerings by doing the following :
1. Curriculum Leadership for International YTT Programs — Co-design, develop, and teach within the 200- and 500-hour etc Yoga Teacher Training curricula aligned with Yoga Certification Board (YCB) and Yoga Alliance RYT standards, with particular sensitivity to the needs of international participants.
2. Academic Instruction in Yoga Studies — Deliver rigorous undergraduate and postgraduate courses bridging classical yogic philosophy (Pātañjala Yoga, Sāṃkhya, Bhakti, Vedānta) with contemporary applications in health, wellness, and contemplative practice.
3. Asana and Practice-Based Teaching — Lead and supervise physical practice sessions across multiple yoga traditions, ensuring pedagogical excellence, safety standards, and alignment with international certification benchmarks.
4. Scholarship and Research — Maintain an active research profile in yoga studies, whether textual, historical, ethnographic, scientific, or interdisciplinary, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications, edited volumes, or public-facing scholarly work.
5. Public Engagement and Outreach — Represent the Faculty and University through workshops, retreats, media appearances, and community programming that bring yoga scholarship into broader public conversation, both nationally and internationally.
6. Mentorship of YTT and degree candidates — Guide and evaluate student teachers through practicum components, observation hours, and teaching methodology assessments required for YCB and Yoga Alliance certification.
7. Cross-disciplinary and Interfaith Collaboration — Collaborate with colleagues across the Faculty of Dharma Studies — including scholars of Āyurveda, Indian philosophy, and contemplative traditions — to create integrated, holistic programming for domestic and international students.
8. Institutional Development and Global Partnerships — Contribute to building the international profile of the Department of
Yoga and Meditation through academic partnerships, curriculum advisory roles, and participation in global yoga and wellness networks.
