Videographer Interview Questions And Sample Answers
Here are some potential questions interviewers might ask you, along with their sample responses, to help you prepare your responses:
1. What made you pursue a career as a videographer?
Hiring managers want to know if you have a genuine interest in videography and the position for which they are hiring you. You can show your passion for the job and the industry through this question. Discuss why you became a videographer in your response. You can also express your eagerness to get a chance to work for their organisation.
Example answer: "I remember watching many of my father's documentaries on nature, where he assisted as a zoologist. We had a video camera that my father taught me to operate. I used it to film family vacations and make home videos and I eventually developed an appreciation for this art form. I have been fascinated by the art of capturing moments on film, discovering new film-making techniques and recording the lives of those around me. I am glad that I could pursue my passion for film-making and content creation."
2. How do you prepare for a shoot?
The interviewer may ask you this question to assess your dedication, competence and organisational skills. Employers prefer videographers who are systematic in planning and arranging video shoots. In your answer, describe the steps you take in planning a shoot.
Example answer: "Before I go to a shoot, I consider the location, weather and the client's requirements, along with the objectives and concept. I outline a plan for how I want to shoot it and prepare a list of any equipment I might require. I always carry a camera, a backup camera, a zoom lens, a tripod, memory cards and extra batteries during an outdoor shoot."
3. Can you describe the video project you enjoyed the most?
This is a question a prospective employer might ask to see if you hold a genuine interest in this profession. This question may allow them to learn about the type of projects that you are most familiar with and enjoy working on the most. Consider a project that makes you feel proud and happy or from which you gained experience while answering and explaining why it is your favourite.
Example answer: "I got an opportunity of filming a cousin's wedding recently. As with my other outdoor projects, I assessed the location first, which was an open outdoor space. I also spent time with the couple, their parents, wedding coordinators and friends. I went with a 35mm camera that delivered high-quality 4k resolution videos even in low light. My small lighting setup with reflectors and bouncers worked really well to make a cinematic wedding video for my cousin and his bride. I absolutely enjoyed my time there being a part of their special day."
