A market research analyst is an employee who studies and gathers data about consumers and competitors on behalf of a company or organisation. 1. Research the company with the job posting

Researching the company you want to work with can help you discover important information for writing your resume. When you do this step, write down any information about the specific role such as skills and experience levels the company wants and then research the company itself. This can help you learn about the workplace culture of the company and about any additional information you may need for the role. Try researching each location where the job posting is, to ensure you do not miss any critical information for the role.

Having this information can help you customise your resume to meet the company's standards and improve the likelihood you get an invitation for an interview. It can also ensure you do not add too much information to your resume by keeping it focused only on the role and company with which you want to work.

2. Include your contact information

Your contact information goes just beneath your name on your resume. It includes your phone number and the city and state or Union territory in which you live. You can also include a professional email address that has your first and last name and that you are comfortable using in a professional setting.

Hiring managers use this information to provide critical information you may use during the hiring process. This information may include additional documents the company wants, skill or personality tests the company uses to choose its candidates and how the company prefers you submit your resume and other documents to it.

3. Write a professional summary

At the top of your resume, write a professional summary to describe your key skills and qualifications for a market research analyst position. Highlight the relevant years of experience you have in market research or a similar area, such as marketing. Describe your career accomplishments or a few of your top skills, such as statistical analysis and communication. Keep your professional summary short to encourage hiring managers to continue reviewing the rest of your resume.

4. Detail your work experiences

List your previous positions in reverse chronological order, beginning with your current or most recent position. Underneath each position, provide several bullet points to describe your experience in the role, such as your primary responsibilities or accomplishments. Write five bullet points for the first position listed on your resume and three bullet points for all other positions. Start each bullet point with a strong verb and quantify your duties or accomplishments to show your impact. For example, you may write that you recommended new product packaging, which increased sales by 8% in one quarter.

5. List your skills

Your skills are a major section within your resume. There, you can list the specific skills that make you an excellent market research analyst. For example, many market research analysts are familiar with doing mathematical research or communicating with a team of other analysts to analyse data. When you list your skills, include both hard and soft skills. Hard skills are those you learn in your work experiences, such as how to perform competitor research, while soft skills are those you can use in any role, such as leadership or effective communication.

Provide the name of your degree and the college or university you attended, then include the city and state or Union territory where you attended the university.

7. Include your certifications

Some market research analysts may have certifications. If you do, then you can list them at the very bottom of your resume. These often show the particular expertise you have and allow hiring managers to determine whether your commitment to the role continues beyond your regular education. When you list certifications, name the certification and the name of the organisation from which you earned it. Then, include the date you acquired the certification or its expiration date.
