Equipment Operator/ Trackman (Former Employee) - Sherwood Park, AB - April 27, 2022
If you don’t like being away from home it’s hard but I’m use to living in hotels so it’s great ! Other than that it’s a great work place either working or a steel crew or tie crew is the places to be

They don't care about no one but themselves.
Flagman (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - March 30, 2022
You'll have no outside life at this company. You're basically an on-call employee without the on-call pay. Union doesn't do much of anything to protect their guys. Management has their heads up their rear ends. Co workers are great for the most part. Micromanaged beyond belief. They'll starve you for hours of work if you don't do everything they want from you.

THERMITE WELDER (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - November 3, 2021
They hire with big promises and let you down without any support. I'm a certified welder and never been through such a bad experience. Guys are quiting every month. There is no work, they want guys just in case.
Pros
good wage
Cons
part time work

Job seekers beware
Track protection (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - October 24, 2021
If you are applying to work here, please note a few things! 1) it cost 700-800 dollars to join union within 30 days of being hired. 2) there is no option to be placed out of the union pension if you don't want to be in it. Other employees had the option, so they are making more money hourly then other who were not allowed to opt out of the pension. 3) Due to paying so much a year in union dues (5000+ a year) you will be audited yearly! 4) they can and will switch your shift from nights to days or vice versa without warning or time to adjust! If none of the above will affect you and your lifestyle, then this is an alright place to work until something better comes along!
Pros
Vehicle
Cons
A majority of the job!

A lot of favouritism and no organization transparency
Track protection flagman (Current Employee) - GTA, ON - September 16, 2021
Supervisors sneak up and watch workers from a distance The job is great but unfortunately the company is so mismanaged they needs a revamp. Training is 3 months overkill Pleasing their customers quotas is their top priority If they don’t like you they will micromanage you and then fire you for the pettiest of reasons Very unorganised management Different pay rates for similar employees High staff turnover Scheduling is week by week basis always subject to change Rules and policies are only followed at convienence depending on who the person is
Pros
Company vehicle
Cons
Overall Low morale

Very unsafe/poor workplace
Working at A&b is a nightmare, ever since the new management has taken over it is a very unsafe workplace, they are not training new employees properly only to provide numbers for their obligations with contracts. Most good & qualified employees have left to the competition and its a revolving door as management likes to call it.
Pros
Truck
Cons
Unsafe

Labourer/Operator (Former Employee) - Fort Saskatchewan, AB - September 17, 2020

Great company but industry is where my problems sit.
Senior Track Man (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - June 30, 2020
Working with A&B I gained the knowledge and skills to advance into a new position with my career. I was paid very fairly and they stood by me when i needed to go through a few things for my job, the biggest downfall and in which is no way shape or form is on A&B to blame is sometimes the seasons are very busy sometimes there is nothing which then causes jobs to be lost. I would recommend A&B to anybody looking for a start in the company.
Pros
Good money, good job, good friends.
Cons
Very iffy work life.

Prepare for no life
Protecting Foreman (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - April 30, 2020
TERRIBLE management and scheduling. They lie constantly to employees and they'll lie to your face right from the hiring process. They make promises they cant keep to keep you doing what they desire. Employees are expected to be at the companies beck and call 24/7. Youll be just a number for they do not care about their on the ground workers as long as they get the coverage they desire, unless you are well liked for favoritism is very present. Youll be expected to work weekends and nights so don't expect to have a social life. I didn't come across 1 employee who was happy for everyone complained so its a very toxic environment. Good pay and company vehicle is all this place is good for so if that's all you value then this place is for you. They'll also get rid of you for no reason so be sure not to do anything against their beliefs. You have to be a robot to work there. I would give 0 stars if I could for I wouldn't recommend this company to my enemy

Hard work, Great benefits.
Equipment Operator, General Labourer (Current Employee) - Sherwood Park, AB - January 25, 2020
Job work/Life balance can be very hard to achieve because the work isn't always near home, shifts can be tough 10-12 hour days 6 days on 1 day off. for me i find it hard to be away from home as much as I am. But if you are looking for solid, hard well paying work, and you don't mind being out of town this is a great place to work.

VERY hard work.
Track Maintainer (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - December 19, 2019
the Job itself is really hard. Lots of overtime though. Foremen will work you like a donkey...well, it’s literally a donkey job so... coworkers will snitch and talk behind your back. Careful who you chat with. After all, the pay was good..not really equivalent to the hard work but still... it could be worse, right?

Physically demanding job with very low work/life balance
Labourer (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - December 5, 2019
Pay is great considering zero qualifications are required and the only restriction is the clean drug test. However, as a labourer, it is very physically demanding and the work/life balance is poor. You will be sent to all kinds of different areas in the western provinces to work, staying in hotels and camps. You'll most likely get paid LOA too. If you need the money and are willing to do physical work, then this job is for you. Hopefully you'll get a good crew and foreman but that can be a crapshoot.

Bank your money and get out!
Railroad Flagman (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - October 8, 2019
This is a real love it or hate it kinda place. This place will consume you and become your life in no time. No room to have a life outside. You live pretty much as an “on call employee”. Schedule is given daily, roughly 24 hours notice. There is absolutely no gratification in this job. No room for “thinkers”. While there is work and overtime, you can easily make 110k plus a year. It is a regular thing for people to work 14 “days” straight. There are definitely lots of perks and pros to the job if you list them. But depending on how you “weigh” or value the pros and cons, this job is either your dream job or your worst nightmare. On top of everything else, 90% of the work load is on nights. Unless you have a doctors note, nights is where you will end up. If you do have a note, it is hard to get hours at all, let alone consistency throughout the week. Proceed with caution!
Pros
Great money, company car, company phone, gas card, travel pay
Cons
Horrible work life balance. EXPECTED to work EVERY weekend without breaks

Hard work but rewarding
The job was hard and you have to work in all weather -50 to +40, the job wasn't to bad. But management didn't care for personal needs. Poor work environment. I would do the job again at a different company
Pros
Loa is available
Cons
Poor working condition
