Insights into Coal India limited
What people like

Fast growing Maharatna PSU Company. Cares for welfare of its employees and their family.
MANAGER (Former Employee) - Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh - June 29, 2023
I have been fortunate to be a part of this Company for as long as 44 years. Now as a retired ex-employee, I can say that being in and out of the Company is a life time experience. If one gets an opportunity to join Coal India, he/she must avail this opportunity.
Pros
All good features of an organization, one would like to be a part of.
Cons
Some times, non-performers also get the same benefits as the performers, no extra recognition for outstanding performers

Monotonous Work culture
Dy. Manager (Current Employee) - Asansol, West Bengal - April 27, 2023
Repeated work every now and then. Long working hours with huge hierarchical culture worsen the working condition of employee. Less of niche initiative.

Supportive work environment and Job security
Assistant Manager (HR) (Current Employee) - Bokaro, Jharkhand - April 17, 2023
Coal India Limited is a Public Sector undertaking under GOI due to which it provides a job security and good benefits in terms of allowances and compensations. The work environment is good with cooperative culture and it feels like a family. It provides a work life balance. However there are certain cons like its a male dominated sector therefore at certain points females face a discrimination at higher positions specially when they are not ready to take orders from a female officer. Limited future growth as people are lethargic to learn new things and new technology.

Productive yet old school of Management
Sr. Manager (Former Employee) - Margherita, Arunachal Pradesh - March 11, 2020
It's a good place to work, but one needs to be more of a pseudo than an intellect. Like any other Govt organisation an affluent background does wonders. YES MAN is more preferred than an independent problem solver. Flattery is the order of the day right from the Top Management Board to the Lowest rung of Managers.
Not a very good place for Independent Problem Solver. Or in other words, Flattery is preferred over independent Intellectuals. Yes mans gets promoted over the actual Independent thinkers. A word of command is the order however it may be contrary to the fact.

Productive and encouraging
HR Manager (Current Employee) - Nagpur, Maharashtra - September 26, 2019
The organization is basically labour intensive and hence as a HR Manager the job is always to maintain harmonious relations which is a difficult task as the manpower is very large and no HRIS/ERP is developed at hand to get the data/reports instantly.
