Bold vision

Indeed Featured review

Regular change is a key part of the culture. Merger/acquisitions, reorgs. Plenty of opportunities to take your career in new directions. Biggest challenge at the moment is competing in the market on price. The bold vision and global organization add to overhead and don't always translate to additional customer value.

If I lived in Houston, TX. I would definitely consider returning to work at GNV. Great supportive management support. Cares about the people that work for the company.

Set up for failure

There is no pathway to success. The unit is incredibly understaffed and there are multiple layers of "management" that do nothing but give directives. Very toxic work environment that encourages lying and passing the buck over teamwork.

Pros

Good Co-workers

Cons

No opportunity for advancement, low pay, uncaring management

Overworked and underpaid

This is in reference to the Business Assurance sector of DNVGL: Was once a decent place to work until management changed and the newbies wanted to be heroes by reducing staff but increasing workload with no compensation. Of course that only benefits top management, not the people doing the everyday work. Work is overloaded then you are reprimanded when you get complaints. They withheld vacation time to meet ridiculous deadlines; the expectation is ridiculous with the tools you are given

Pros

Decent benefits

Lots of room for improvement

A high turnover rate, low employee morale and non competitive compensation per the market rate. The workload is excessive and not many opportunities for advancement.

Pros

Hours

Cons

Work load

Very toxic work environment. Management does not keep its promises. A lot of back stabbing and underhanded tactics being employed by middle management.

Love the work with aerospace and defense companies. Meet greet people and always learning. DNV GL provides annual training where it brings the auditors together, which provides a great opportunity for knowledge sharing and calibration of audit approaches. Travel is extreme. Some travel is fine, but I would like to be home more.

Pros

Great companies to work with, great variety in the work, great people, and always learning.

Cons

Extreme travel.

Multiple business lines with different cultures

A great company. Each business unit has a drastically different business culture. I worked within the Maritime, O&G, and Business Assurance areas. Both Maritime and O&G had similar culture which were wonderful in the USA. The Business Assurance culture suffered as a result of the CEO and local leadership.

Great workplace

Top performing team attitude. Typical workday was to start early and work late as I was a field service representative. Never had a work overload. Management always available even late hours and holidays

Pros

Office open plan with easy interaction with other employees

Open the computer and Review incoming messages and act upon them. Complete reports, where necessary and make client phone calls relating to ongoing projects. Interact with other surveyors and techs about ongoing projects Educational opportunity to learn was presented daily and scheduled Management was hit or miss they would change their minds on assignments without checking with the surveyors The hardest part of the job was dealing with this aspect The best part of the job assigned was the travel both domestic and international

Pros

Good place to work assignments are challenging

Cons

Management needs to talk to each other

Never worked in environment like this

My manager is horrible, she does not know how to manage at all. The environment is very cut throat and you cannot trust the people you work with. This company is very corporate, with no flexibility depending on who you work under. I would not recommend working here.

Good company, poor management ethics

Software division in the US surprisingly poorly managed. It became increasingly more difficult to to get any understanding for problems facing the division, management not understanding the basics of customer requirements and how to improve on our weaknesses. It is a good company to work for, but senior management was unable to accept or understand the corrosive attitude of some of the mid-level management.

Pros

Good benefits

Cons

Poorly managed

Not My Kind of Place

Management was not professional. Work process all over the place. Employees were messy and unprofessional. Employees took off to volunteer at rodeo when there was a deadline to meet. Manager was always taking off as well and always wanted to talk about her personal life. Hated this place.

Overpriced and losing business

Management is detached from reality. Multiple locations performing same tasks. Suggested admin consolidation, but was turned away. Many cases of hiring less qualified people to satisfy unwritten quotas.

Good work environment

Norwegian company, with a similarly relaxed European atmosphere. Employees are granted autonomy and flexibility. There is a bias towards keeping Norwegians in management positions, but only in overhead departments. Technical/engineering departments are very diverse. Company supports employee development, and is reluctant to conduct reductions. Company is not publicly owned, and the company's priorities are aligned accordingly.

Pros

Benefits, atmosphere
