Great culture and noble goals

The renewables group is dedicated to ushering in the energy transition. The people are passionate and knowledgeable. Benefits and 401k matching are great. Pay is low compared to similar positions at other companies.

very good work life balance with low long term career advancement opportunity

Really like working at DNV GL, which has a relaxed and encouraging working atmosphere. Colleagues are very nice, and many of them of PHD degrees. They are responsible and highly competent. However, the company is lacking long term career opportunities. as DNV is a certification and verification company, so it is hit very hard by the oil price downturn. Management is working very hard to try to re-define, and re establish its domain market, and succeed. However it is not easy.

Co-workers are amazing

Great culture, but lacking in benefits and training. Management leaves something to be desired. Taking time for vacation is not a problem. This can be a fault sometimes where no one else is around to help.

Great learning experience

Working at DNV GL enabled me to work in a great many different aspects of and Oil and Gas safety and design analysis. It was sometimes challenging with regard to communicating with management and keeping them apprised of your work as they were rarely in the office or available. Also, working processes were consonantly being changed which made them hard to follow. Overall, not a bad company to work for, but there could have been improvements.

Pros

Office in town, work-life balance, variety of work

Cons

Working processes were in a state of flux which made them hard to follow

Good intentions - poor on execution

Worked in the renewables independent engineering group, exciting work, however the company planned a merger very poorly and suffered with a poor accounting system, and horribly understaffed and burned everyone out. Would have been nice if management could have executed their vision much better.

Pros

exciting work, global reach

Cons

bureaucratic organization, very demanding clients, bubble in the solar industry

Not bad

Not a place for new grad engineers. The work is very generalized so don't expect to learn anything that you can become proficient in that is applicable to another company's work.

Cons

Poor Management - Lots of bosses no leaders
