Plant Optimization has depreciated the work environment

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Reviewing machine production schedules by unqualified operators a decision to manipulate manpower to other jobs has backfired. Less pride in being successful because you will be moved to machine thats low in output. Depletes a rhythm to complete a 12 hr shift, knowing you will be told to subsidize your labour to cover a lazy employee.Every new TM trains to build tires, a bid system to move to a more exciting job becomes useless when you are told to function in your previous position. Often Managers are placed in a position to fail ...only a change from Plant Manage down, will prevent epic failure as employees hate the current positions.

Pros

Only Wage

Cons

No Flexibility to achieve personal goals, unManagable managers

If you want to get injured... work here!

This company is all about the quantity of the tires you produce per shift. It doesn’t matter if you hurt yourself as long as you give them the numbers they need! Training is horrible! Salary is not enough for the amount of hard job the company is expecting you to do. If you had an injury, you are done! Make sure you come back the same day after going to the hospital or else you are in trouble. Think 100 times before working in this place!

Pros

Nice fellas

Cons

Tradesman

I worked as a tradesman for 10 years at goodyear. You are expected to perform various trades such as millwright, electrician, machinist, set up tech with zero training provided. The pay was around 33$ per hour. Goodyear will not replace any broken or lost tools for tradesman. Management is spineless towards the plant manager, who is extremely abusive to his staff. Overall you can expect to work shift work and make about 80 thousand per year with OT

Usual

Typical manufacturing. 12 shift rotation with varying levels of challenges that can call for both mechanical and theoretical understanding of physics, electronics, plc structure, automation, pneumatics, and above all safety.

Not as advertised!

They appear to be a different company when you first start your introductory into the plant. Once you start on production, it is a whole different place. Upper management go home at 5 pm., night shift comes in at 7 pm and all heck breaks out by midnight. The culture is like letting all the prisoners of Alcatraz have free reign all night until the guards show up at 7 am. People who have worked a long time there try to make you do their work, or they will make your life miserable. Most upper management have spies that they give little rewards to for secret report of production on night shifts. If your production is low, management allows your co-workers to frustrate you until you quit. I found a better a job after years of employment and I have never returned.

Well paying but somewhat dated management style.

This review pertains to Goodyear Napanee. Goodyear is a great-paying employee if you are a production worker. However, For Ticketed Tradesmen, it's not a bad paying job, but there are better paying jobs in the area. All new-hires receive a Defined-Contribution Pension. There is no union. and despite the 'dated' management style to which Goodyear Corporate clings, a Union probably wouldn't make life better for employees. There is also a great deal of opportunity for those who lean towards advancement in management. Depending on the area in which you work, the jobs can be fast-paced and physically demanding at times and work conditions can be hot, with less than ideal air quality in the Curing Department. Overall, you can make a fine living with Goodyear, but shift-work in a factory isn't for everyone.

Rotating shifts are not balanced effectively which can cause health issues later down to road. Pay is not competitive enough and it takes to long to start making a good wage.

Stressful. Overworked and underpaid.

A typical example of an American corporation. They dial up production expectations to a heart attack then drop it down one iota. With a continental shift, it has little life/family balance. I would not recommend this company!

Salary

The salary is low to start. After a year it goes up a little but after 2 year probation period it raises quite a bit. The area I work in which is mixing the guys are great to work with.

It was an amazing job and an amazing opportunity to work in a plant. They treated their staff amazingly well and they made sure that if you needed something you would get it.

secure work,steady pay

Management concern's, Maintenance department going through a rash of retirements with no reliable replacements. Maintenance is expected to be multi trade yet wage is in lower 50 percentile of trades workers.

Pros

Steady work

Cons

Management and direction

Great factory experience.

I learned how to manage my time better, communication with my fellow Good Year employee's about hazards such as spills, leaks, machines that aren't running properly etc.. management is very personable respectable and easy to communicate with about work related issues. I learned to work independently and safely in dangerous positions such as cleaning the trenches, which where right under freshly pressed tires. caution is key in a plant environment!

Pros

Flexable hours

Cons

Hard place to work and underpaid for the amount of work needing to be done

How much can I say about factory that is good..honestly not much, working 12 hour night shifts not gonna lie really sucks, but it is my first and only job so I am not gonna complain much. The people I met working there were great and some I call close friends. Its a good environment just lots of hard nights. They go out of there way to push safety that way everyone comes home with all there limbs attached.

Pros

I got to learn how to drive a forklift

Cons

Extremely horrible 12 hour night shifts.

Good benefits, bad management, keep your head low and you will be ok.

As a general labourer, it has good benefits package, the drawback is the changing 12-hour shift works. The plus side is that you only have to work 14 days/nights a calendar month (+/- 2). There is no union to protect worker, and HR is very weak in term of protecting the labour force. They act more like a ticket master (for special events or deals) than to address real human resource issues. Mostly, they lean on the employer and management side than the employee side. Upper management tends to be micro-managing although their technical knowledge is below average (of their own admittance). Middle management is treated like second-class citizens and bounds to be abused by both upper management and ostracized by the general labour workforce. Unless you are yes man/woman kind of person, it is extremely frustration to make any change or put new ideas to the table to be considered. Current plant manager/manufacturing director (2013-current) is known to be a bully, with everyone knows it, but would not, could not do anything about.

Goodyear has provided a good learning expierence in its culture. customer focus ,safety, quality and maintaining high quality standards to meet custom

Good well rounded people. Everyone works well as a team and helps out. Management always has a team meeting to inform you of whats going on on the floor and to keep you up on safety and production requirements. The people are the best part of the job, well trained and informed.

Pros

lots of overtime.
