I joined IIT Kanpur as a visiting researcher. I had a great experience in learning new concepts and practical applications in the field of research and development. They do not have any time constraints, so if you are a workaholic, the place is for you.
The institute is very profound in sense of knowledge, curriculum and learning. The development is excellent and there is much more to learn about new research and innovation.

Just excellent, even though it was just an Internship for me, it was very joyful and productive. How much you want to work depends upon you. Just excellent.
Worked as a intern. Terrible place to work at, good opportunities though. The professor I worked under was also the head of the departmennt and was alwasy caught up with administrative activites and barely had any time to allocate to the the lab and thus no growth at all. You are left there to figure everything out and work solo.
Excellent guidance from professors and a free and open working environment ensures the students learns as much as possible in the limited time spent here as an Intern.
One of the best educational institutes of India. Their summer project intern program allows students from other universities to learn and work in their state of the art labs.
Focused work culture with proper understanding of work ethics, research and competitive projects. Good management and even enjoyable work culture with challenges.
Worked as a research intern in the summer of 2015, before transition to the present campus. Support from professors was okay, but getting funds for research was a bureaucratic problem.
Good experience as the equipments are of superior quality. The professors and Ph.D scholars are very friendly and supportive. In a nutshell, a good place to see the ongoing research taking place.
Pros
Good quality cheap food and very good accomodation
Cons
long hours
I worked with a professor and his team and it was really exciting. But few days turnout to be tougher and the day turns hectic.Overall its a great experience to work there.
It is a newly founded Institute, so the labs are not fully developed. Schedule is not very hectic, work environment is quite easy going. Projects are well-funded, so new innovative ideas to be implemented as projects are always welcome.
A lot to learn with experienced people around and guidance from professors. Work atmosphere is good and research oriented environment. A typical day at work is like coming to the office, meeting everyone, and then start our work till lunch.
Learnt a great deal about smart systems and work environment was great, good timing and great balance.--------------------------------------------------------
Worked on an open channel fluid flow setup to study the physics of single and multiphase fluid flow.
Implemented Particle Image and Tracking velocimetry techniques along with dye visualization methods to visualize the fluid flow. 3D printing was used to create a grid for generating turbulence.
Executed PIVlab which was used to capture and analyze the single phase flows.
Programmed and successfully executed PTVlab which was used to analyze the multiphase flows.
Working in favor of the students and provides a proper domain for exploring and inventing new things. Staff is highly supportive and is highly cooperative.
