Okay Kind of University

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Management is an okay. I have learned how to work at a private university. The work culture is better. This is an okay kind of university. It depends on your past experience. From where you hail.

Highly insecure environment

People are constantly on the prowl to complicate others lives. Confident posture is always a strict No in this environment. Always need to underplay and be a people pleaser in order to secure a position. Can use any situations to their advantage to settle scores.

Pros

Na

Cons

Tyrant leadership

Decent Place to Work But Pay is too low when compared to their competitors

They have the lowest pay band in the class of Institute of Eminence. They charge a extensively high fee from the students but fail to pay in par to their faculty. The growth is very slow and they aren't paying well to the PhD holders and are demanding a quite a number of SCI / Q1 journals for promotion. The workload is quite extensive and highly organized but the system in place at Manipal University for evaluation beats around the bush and demands a lot of load. They promise an Associate Professor in 5 years and Professor in 10 years but that's not true as they keep changing the policies and you always fall short of their requirements. They always make you feel low and miserable during their performance evaluation and the environment is not suited for people who want a peaceful and a relaxed academic career. They don't even respect a PhD from an IIT and fail to pay in par with other Institutes of Similar Scale. Their take home salary for a PhD holder is just 67000 and if taxed it is much less. Even local colleges pay you 95,000 for PhD holders n give a Senior Assistant Professor but Manipal University fails to pay. To reach 95,000 payband, it would take another 3-5 years and you need to fulfil 5 journals as a first author.

Wasted

No use. Fully loaded with internal politics. At the outset management behave as if they are welcome new ideas and there is lot of freedom, but inside it is worst than terrorist rule.

Brand name Manipal, Job Security

If you are coming as academic staff (Teaching Cadre), it's best place to work in terms of Research Work, Job Security etc but for non-academic staff (Cadre) forget about hike, increase in pay, appreciations, compensation etc.Work culture - For Academic Staff its good, for non-academic No CommentsIf you need good in-hand salary, try to demand as much as you can during interview, as after that it's very hard to get increment specially for non-academic staff.

Pros

Academic Learning, Lots of Research Activity, Focus on Q1, SCI journals, Kra, PMS etc.... GooD to go for Academic Staff.....Placements Great, every year touch almost 90%. Students quality superb

Cons

No Work Appreciation for non-academic staff, no salary hike/increment 5% - 6% every two years.

Horrible and unethical workplace

I was an Asst. Prof. in MCNS for almost two years. This Centre is controlled by a supreme authoritarian who dictates you what to research, where to publish, how much and how to spend your funding. The supremo has no scientific knowledge BUT you will be dictated on almost everything and very silly or rather insanely stupid way. It is a torture centre and University top personnel are completely numb on the matter of this centre. The culture is completely unethical. There is no vision, no mission and of course no security of job at all. This centre can only be considered as a stop-gap to find some better opportunity and not at all for the long term. In addition, there are also humiliation, insult and regular threat to your job. it is a horrible place to join and my biggest mistake in life.
