Ever since the siriusxm acquisition there's been a clear vision for Pandora's future. All the engineers are eager to collaborate and foster an environment of belonging.

Atmosphere is good, and co workers were nice. It was difficult to change departments, but overall had good managers and a good experience working there.

Weak leadership and heads-in-the-sand management, despite some talented people

Pros: -Smart, hardworking, talented people (for the most part) -Competitive pay -Good work/life balance, including remote working -Terrific perks -Generally positive and inclusive culture Cons: -High turnover, especially among senior team members and leaders -Conflicting cultures between SiriusXM and Pandora -Continual rescopes for individuals, often causing confusion and attrition -Different teams (specifically some closer to SiriusXM) held to different standards of performance, process, and communication -Concerns about the future of the company post-SiriusXM acquisition, which have yet to be addressed -Lack of action and responsibility towards unproductive and free-willing team members that create a negative working environment Advice to senior leadership and management: Stop minimizing the frustrations, challenges, and concerns being expressed by your employees and teams. Be actionable about feedback. Get your key goals and areas of focus in place, and clearly communicate them to your teams.

Average Corporate Life

There were great people there but managers were not among them. I learned eventually that I was hired on a fluke because my manager had panicked in a time of unusual busyness, hiring me as a stop-gap measure so that more veteran members of the team could focus on more important work. After 2 years, I never moved to a different position, got no pay raises, and my managers had no plans to help me move to any of the other projects or positions I expressed interest in. It felt very oppressive and heartless of them and I was pretty hurt by how trapped I felt. Perhaps this is how it is at most corporate companies but I just long for more humanity in the workplace, that was not to be found at Pandora at all.

Great working environment

I love the great workings environment of Pandora. The management team encouraged you to learn and be able to share information with different teams. I was a consultant but employees made me feel welcome.

Fun culture with minimal advancement

The culture and people are what keep people at Pandora. The career pathing is relatively non existent and the salaries aren't particularly competitive

Pandora was a roller coaster - in good and bad ways

My journey at Pandora was unique, so the extent to which it can represent what the "typical" experience is like (especially for those new to the company) may be limited. I joined Pandora as a Sales intern back in 2010. Back then, Pandora was still very much on the rise, thanks in large part to the explosion of the iPhone (still only 3 years old at the time, and not nearly as gorged with applications in the AppStore as it is now). The culture was teeming with excitement, and an all-hands-on-deck approach. New teams and branches of the organization were spawning quarterly. It was exciting. Fast forward a couple years to 2013, and Pandora had its IPO on the NYSE, and was focusing on fleshing out its advertising sales options. The culture was still exciting, but there were significant growing pains, with Pandora consistently missing its quarterly earnings targets and operating in the red. There was still marked enthusiasm and an optimism that we would "right the ship." And we were working on cool new products and sales opportunities. Then, in 2015, after a number of high-profile acquisitions (Next Big Sound, Ticketfly, and rival streaming service Rdio), the lack of profitability coupled with new competitors in the space (Apple and Spotify) gaining marketshare, cracks began to show. We had a series of layoffs that touched many of the teams I worked with, and reorgs hit the company hard. Being a loyalist to the company given my background, I stuck with it, but looking back, this would have been a good time to leave and gain new experience elsewhere. I still had strong internal -

Difficult Situation

Work definitely challenging, especially with minimal support from mid-management level. Great location and good atmosphere overall. Difficult situation due to the recent acquisition so roles/responsibilities weren't as defined as they needed to be

Great Place to work

Pandora is a great place to work. The work/life balance is exceptional. They truly understand that people actually have real life family issues to attend to.

A great work/life balance that doesn't always have the right strategy

Pandora is a classic tale of a company that started and led a new category and rested on its laurels for a bit too long before figuring out that competitors were advancing. It gave a good effort to try and catch up but it was too late. That said, great work/life balance and cared deeply about its employees and product.

It was fine.

Pandora in Oakland is a fine place to work. It's downtown so right near transit and a lot of entertainment options post work. Co-workers were great as well.

Doesn't support young talent

Pandora doesn't help young employees keep and move up in roles. Very stagnant structure. I found no one in HR that supported growth. Very competitive internally and externally and slow-moving processes.

Working at Pandora

Over all Pandora was a great place to work, with great benefits. The work was challenging and fun. Management seemed to be highly political. Which leads me to the culture. The culture at Pandora is forced. You have a company that promotes "free expression" is being ran by group think marxists, and the execs bend to them in fear of bad press.

Pros

Free Pizza

Cons

Group think marxists running the place

Sad to see it going downhill

The best place I have worked in terms of culture. Unfortunately, while on its downward trend, morale declined drastically and made for a toxic environment. It seems they are turning the Sales org into a team of Robots, with no desire to really look at skill or dedication.

Great company, Lackluster experience

As a contractor, I wasn't expected to stay on long. Soon, I got an extension and the responsibilities of a supervisor. I was hiring, training, doing extra work for my supervisors, but I was still a contractor being given two-week extensions at a time. The team had expressed a strong interest in keeping me on as staff, but I got a notice that it was to be my last two weeks. I felt as if I was so close to staying at Pandora, and then suddenly it didn't. I wish they rewarded hard working contractors with positions, but it is what it is. The culture, the amenities, the people, and good music playing constantly all around made Pandora a great place to be. If I was asked to return, I would in a heartbeat.

Pros

good people, good culture, competitive pay, snacks and lunch, listen to music all the time, offices are large and full of character, very easy to commute to.

Cons

frequent large-batch firings left employees uneasy, communication within my department could have been better

Pros

Cons

short breaks

Contracted position

I was employed as a contractor - plain and simple, I was there to get the job done. I did build relationships, however, my focus was to the job and tasks at hand.
