In the year 1960, Sri. Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao, founded 'Southern Engineering Works' (SEW) in Vijaywada, A.P. India, to pursue civil engineering construction activities. Subsequently late Sri Y. Purnachandra Rao and Sri Y.M.G. Nageswara Rao joined the company and contributed to the growth of the organization. The first project SEW worked on, was the prestigious Nagarjuna Sagar Dam in Andhra Pradesh.

With the experience gained at the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the company participated in the building of other major dams of Tawa, Bargi, Bansagar, Hasdeo Bango, in Madhya Pradesh and Srisailam and Priyadarshini Jurala Dams in Andhra pradesh. SEW attained specialization in the construction of high dams due to the experience gained in the opportunties available in the begining years of it's founding.

I had spend 1 year with SEW, it was worst experience I ever had.

South Indian culture adopted, Salary irregular. Unsystematic work culture. Site management not good. When I joined most of the employees left the project due to irregular salary.
