It was fun to be in UN. I happened to meet and interact with different nationalities and added another feather in my cap.

I am proud to be a member of the Facilities management and Engineering team. I was among the team who were responsible for providing accommodation and office spaces to the expatriates attempting for bringing lasting peace to the South Sudanese population.

Pros

Free U N flights, laptop, mobile etc for work.

Cons

Sometimes security situation in the town and non-availability of some materials in the town.

Learning and skillful

Had to collaborate with many stakeholders ranging from Government departments to grassroot level agencies and front line workers. This required continuous follow up, travel and documentation. However, that enriched my knowledge base, skill. Enjoyable job.

Central Warehouse MINUSMA GAO

I'm currently working in the remote location, in the desert. The temperature is very hot, and my first days in the duty were difficult, but now I really like even the work environment. My work consist: -Supervise the warehousing and operations, supporting the requests from the militaries contingents,. -Supervise all incoming materials and equipment inspect them on base of purchase order scope of work and specifications. -Storage and the supervise the shipping out of materials on base of the demands. -The hardest part of job is when the is reduced , and the demands increasing... -Manage the locals contracts and technical evaluation.

People working UN premises are happy

Staffs hired by UNDP as consultant to work at clients location is not always healthy because client always consider them as third party and never give respect.

Pros

only salary comes in time

Cons

What's in a brand name?

The site offices are nothing like the undp offices. The employees are paid far less than the undp standards. There are no benefits in terms of id card, email address, leaves, insurances, etc. Job is not secure as it is contractual. Salaries are delayed for over a month in every cycle. Reimbursement of bills take more than an year on an average to reach the claimant. The country office is unaware how the bosses in site offices have become tyrinical and take whimsical decisions ignoring the system in place. All recruitments are done based on personal bias and reference.

Pros

Better work life balance than private sector, Relaxed work environment unlike private sector, brand name.

Cons

Delay in salary, very low daily wages paid, no id or email will be issued, no leaves granted to daily wage consultants, late reimbursements, tyrant bosses

An excellent global organization

Hard duty stations, but excellent professional satisfaction. A typical work day is not limited in time but rather with important errands to do and targets to achieve.

Active, creative and fun for reading and continous learning.

Always been a pleasure working in good terms with colleagues, spending some times in fellowship during the week-end and passing the passed week under review. Monday has always been a typical day at the office focuses on the expected had working of the new week.Providing a timely report under the pressure of the management team was the hardest part of the job.Life is a continuous learning and one never knows what will be the next challenge to face.
