Globally we are hearing of it being the era of the great resignation, however, in India, employees seem to be bucking the trend and choosing to stay put in their jobs.
Indeed's latest quarterly hiring tracker (January-March 2023) revealed that 47% of Indian jobseekers are not looking to switch jobs in 2023, and over 37% of all jobseekers looking to prioritize their career growth in 2023.
The study also showed a significant dip in hiring, with only 53% of the employers surveyed saying they had hired in this quarter, down from 64% in the previous quarter (October to December 2022). However, this is not the case across all sectors. Some sectors like Banking, finance and healthcare are witnessing significant hiring.
Trends in 2023
The hiring tracker also examined shifts in workforce perception and expectations. Working from office emerged as the favoured work mode for current jobseekers, with 57% preferring to work from office. Additionally, most employees are undertaking upskilling programs, professional developmental tools, and mentorship programs.
In-demand job roles
The most in-demand job role for the current quarter was for Retail Sales Associate (41% of all employers) followed by Project Engineer (23%) and Marketing Analyst (20%), the survey revealed.
The findings further suggest that there was a substantial increase in the proportion of employers hiring for mid-level (27%, compared to 23% last quarter) and senior-level roles (12%, compared to 9% last quarter).
