Full job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Operations & Planning
· Manage end-to-end forging operations, including billet preparation, die heating, press operation, and secondary CNC machining.
· Develop and execute daily/weekly production schedules to meet volume targets while minimizing material waste.
· Oversee preventive maintenance programs for forging presses, dies, and tooling equipment to reduce unplanned downtime.
2. Quality & Regulatory Compliance
· Guarantee that all forged implants and medical devices strictly comply with global regulatory requirements, including FDA guidelines and ISO 13485.
· Monitor product quality utilizing non-destructive testing (NDT), dimensional inspections, and metallurgical testing.
· Maintain flawless documentation, including device history records (DHR), material traceability logs, and non-conformance reports.
3. Process Optimization & Lean Manufacturing
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma to improve forging yield rates and cycle times.
· Analyse production data to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions for process variances.
· Optimize die-life and reduce raw material consumption.
4. Team Leadership & Safety
· Lead, train, and evaluate production supervisors, forge press operators, and machinists.
· Conduct regular performance reviews and upskill team members on new equipment and safety protocols.
· Foster a zero-incident safety culture, ensuring all operators comply with OSHA, EH&S, and PPE guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Metallurgical Engineering.
· Experience: with at least 3-5 years specifically in a metal forging environment (preferably for orthopedic implants or high-precision aerospace / medical components).
· Technical Skills:
o Deep understanding of hot and cold forging processes, die design, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
o Familiarity with CNC machining, polishing, and surface finishing of titanium and cobalt-chromium alloys.
o Strict adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS) in medical device manufacturing.
