Job Purpose

• To supervise excavation and delivery of the specified quantity and quality of bauxite from the assigned area of the Gurdari mines in the Netarhat cluster to the alumina refinery at Renukoot.
• To execute the mine plan, MIS reporting, Budgeting, sustainable Mining Operation & implementation of digitization /Automation in mining activities.

Job Context & Major Challenges

Job Context:
Hindalco Industries Limited operates 5 bauxite mines across the Netarhat cluster in Jharkhand, about 95-100 km from Lohardaga Railway siding with an extraction capacity of 1,50,000 tons per year. The Amtipani mines caters to alumina refineries at Muri. Bauxite is transported through tippers by road and shipped through train from the railway siding at Tori. Once mining plan is finalized in collaboration with the Geological department and approved by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), mining operation is undertaken at the mines primarily through contractual manpower & departmental manpower both. Laterite is removed, bauxite is drilled, excavated through excavators, and dumped through dumpers and unloaded in crusher hover or in bauxite stock room. At the end of the mining lifecycle, the waste is removed and used in back filling of closed mine pits and making them ready for plantation.

This role is responsible for supervising the excavation at the assigned area of the Gurdari mines to assist in delivering planned quantity and quality of bauxite in accordance with the approved Mining Plan and dispatch the same after a stringent quality assurance process that involves proper segregation after QA verification to the alumina refineries at Muri.
Criticality is achievement of quantity and quality of bauxite through maximum productivity in area under jurisdiction.

This role is expected to contribute to controlling costs through optimum deployment and utilization of resources including manpower, consumables, and spares in assigned area of the mine. This role must facilitate upkeep of equipment and infrastructure as well as good housekeeping under jurisdiction so that continuous production can be maintained.

A key element of the role is to implement safety protocols with respect to both man and materials in area under jurisdiction. It involves participating in safety propaganda and continuously checking PPE usage. It also involves supervising the blasting process with due permissions from explosive department in compliance of PESO norms.

Partnering sustainability through Mine Restoration as mandated by law for management of eco system of mining areas. It involves supervision of back filling of exhausted mines Harmonious relations with the local community and government officials is an important aspect of the role.
The new aspect of this role is to implement the new initiatives related to digitization, automation, and sustainability in various mining operations.
