Specify mandatory vs nice-to-have educational qualifications
Potential applicants always look for mandatory vs nice-to-have qualifications to determine whether or not they are qualified for the position.
Once you’ve arrived at the qualifications needed for the role in consultation with your colleagues, ensure each qualification is clear and easy-to-understand. Use numerical values to describe years of experience i.e for example, ‘4+ years’, instead of a vague ‘some’ experience. If there’s a specific skill or tool you’re looking for, mention that clearly.
More specific the job description, the more qualified leads you will receive.
Mention compensation details
Including a salary range in your job description will bring much needed clarity to candidates on what to expect. Quality candidates want to know compensation details and whether they will be paid as per industry standards.
If mentioning salary range isn’t a possibility, you can include advancement opportunities in the job description to indicate your seriousness and about the other things to look forward to with the job.
Promote company culture
Give a brief ‘inside knowledge’ on what applicants can look forward to when working for your company. Make this section more personalized, as if responding to a co-worker by email. Your tone and interaction will showcase what the candidate can come to expect while working for you.
Key details about your company culture might include:
- Work/life balance
- Benefits
- Vacation days
- Evaluations of employee’s work
Be honest and true in your details, but don’t overemphasize unnecessarily.
Include screener questions where necessary
Selection of the right candidate must be a seamless process, with time spent only on reviewing quality applicants. Including Indeed’s free screener questions when putting up your job posting automatically weeds out candidates that don’t meet the minimum requirements.
A great job description with all the right details can mean the difference between going through tonnes of unqualified applicants and a handful of good ones. It will help you save time. Take a moment to go back, review your existing job posts and then go ahead, post your job on Indeed.
